CharactersOriginal series characters:Heroes:
Spyro the Dragon is an eager, headstrong, purple dragon and the main protagonist of the series. Unlike other dragons, who are typically slow and strong, Spyro is fast and agile. Although he has proven himself many times against larger opponents, other creatures still mock his size.
Sparx is a dragonfly and is Spyro's constant companion. He helps protect Spyro from damage, helps collect gems, and gives out helpful information throughout the game.
Agent 9 is a crazed laser-gun wielding, space monkey.
Bartholomew is Bentley's bear-like younger brother. Unlike Bentley, Bartholomew speaks in a very informal way. He tends to get into trouble easily.
Bentley is a yeti who speaks with a wide vocabulary in a kind and scholarly manner. He has a huge strength, and he fights with an ice club. He has a younger brother called Bartholomew.
Bianca is a young anthropomorphic rabbit originally in service to the Sorceress. She later joins Spyro and helps him defeat the Sorceress. She and Hunter develop a romantic relationship.
Blink is a teenage mole who is The Professor's nephew. He suffers from "Fresh-Airaphobia", a fear of not being underground.
The Dragon Elders serve as the government and primary meditating body of the Dragon Realms. All of them are anthropomorphic, and come in various colors.
Elora is a faun and one of Spyro's friends who he meets in Avalar. She kisses Spyro on the cheek after he saves Avalar. She seemed to be the most level-headed character in Avalar, and filled an ambassador role, giving Spyro clues and information about different areas or exposition. She only appears considerably in Ripto's Rage, with a small appearance in Year of the Dragon.
Hunter is a cheetah and Spyro's best friend next to Sparx. He often challenges Spyro to various contests. He is dim-witted and forgetful but a fast runner, trained archer, and skilled pilot of many different vehicles. Hunter is voiced by Gregg Berger.
Moneybags is a wealthy bear who sells Spyro various abilities, as well as unlocking bridges and passageways for a fee. He is disliked by most of the other characters in the series because of his greed for gems. His greed has often come back to haunt him, such as in Ripto's Rage where he sells bombs to Ripto, who almost immediately attacked him with them when taking over the Winter Tundra castle.
Sgt. James Byrd is "the world's only flying penguin", due to being raised by hummingbirds. After joining the Air Corps, he helps Spyro fight the Sorceress' minions. He later returns to help Spyro in A Hero's Tail.
Sheila is a small kangaroo, whose large feet are extremely powerful, allowing her to kick foes out of the way and jump to tremendous heights. She has an Australian accent and a casually enthusiastic attitude.
The Professor is an anthropomorphic mole with memory and eye problems. He wears glasses, which he often breaks. He builds lots of gadgets to help Spyro on his adventures.
Zoe is a fairy who Spyro meets in Avalar. She appears in set places throughout levels, and acts as a checkpoint. She appeared in every game of the original series, except for the first game, although ostensibly her character was distilled from the helper fairies that did appear in that title. Those nameless fairies served various ancillary roles, notably hovering over dragon-stone checkpoints, a trait which Zoe retains. She also looks remarkably similar to the fairies Spyro had to rescue in the Lofty Castle area.
Ember is a pink female dragon who was crazy in love with Spyro, however in "Spyro: Shadow Legacy" she dumps Spyro for a armadillo named Bandit who fell in love with her at first sight. She is voiced by Tara Strong.
Flame A red male dragon who idolises Spyro. He is voiced by Tara Strong.

He is also shown to have a good understanding of magic. He is voiced by Michael Gough.
Ripto is a Wizard Riptoc, the villain of many of the Spyro games, originally appearing in Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage. He is a short but powerful sorcerer who, upon being transported to the realm of Avalar, announces that he will be taking it over. Before even meeting Spyro, Ripto is shown to have a hatred towards dragons, his confrontations with Spyro further fuel his hatred. He is also irritated whenever someone makes a comment on his size. His personality is similar to that of the Disney version of Professor Ratigan from The Great Mouse Detective and Darth Vader from Star Wars Trilogy.
