Quote :
Pope Benedict XVI said Saturday he is "truly sorry" for the abuse suffered by victims at the hands of Catholic priests in Ireland.

The pope directly addressed the church abuse crisis that has rocked the Irish Catholic Church in an 18-page letter, which was made public Saturday. It is expected to be read in churches across Ireland on Sunday.

"I have been deeply disturbed by the information which has come to light regarding the abuse of children and vulnerable young people by members of the church in Ireland, particularly by priests and religious," the pope wrote.

If you ask me, his apology means nothing to the victims and their families.

My teacher was talking to my classmates and I about this. I felt bad for the victims and you are right, his apology means nothing. People wonder why others lose faith in the church and god. A situation like this would do it.

The Pope is trying to hide the fact that there is abuse to children in the catholic church all around the world. He is acting like this is something new to the church. He is even covering up scandals in Germany.

He would do everything in his power (and he has a lot of power) to prevent any controversy about the church.
He also would do his best to keep it the dominant religon in Ireland, which may not be the case in a decade or so (maybe even less). More and more of new generations are atheist.
